San Antonio Treasures: The Witte Museum! (giveaway)

San Antonio is filled with beautiful parks and museums that are fun to explore. One of our family’s favorites is The Witte Museum, located on the banks of the San Antonio River in the heart of the city. We were recently invited to visit the new exhibits, H-E-B Body Adventure and Grossology, with other San Antonio bloggers and their families–and we left with a four-pack of tickets to give away to one lucky family!

Our first grader is gearing up to start her second year with Classical Conversations, a homeschooling curriculum that uses weekly memory work to introduce important facts and vocabulary (grammar) to young children. (You can read about our Kindergarten experience here.) This year, we’ll be working through Cycle 3, which focuses on American history and geography, 12 elements of the periodic table, and human anatomy (body systems).

As we worked our way through the new exhibits at the Witte, I immediately thought of the other families in Classical Conversations communities around the city! Both H-E-B Body Adventure and Grossology give children (and the adults in their lives!) new insights into the digestive and excretory systems in a fun (and often silly) way.

My girls particularly enjoyed H-E-B Body Adventure, the new permanent exhibit located in the sunny treehouse behind the main museum building. We explored all four floors using our individual POWERpass cards and left with a new understanding about food groups and the power of relaxation! Our toddler LOVED climbing on the giant fruits and veggies in the fruit garden, while our older daughter enjoyed a healthy treat from the test kitchen.

Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body will be available for families to explore through November 3, 2014. As the Witte’s website says, “this exhibit uses sophisticated animatronics and imaginative exhibits to tell you the good, the bad and the downright ugly about runny noses, body odor and much more.”

Don’t miss the digestive system play area (in the mouth, down the esophagus, through the stomach, and out the intestines!) and all the hands-on learning stations. Your family is sure to have a GROSS time that your children remember for a l-o-n-g time!

  1. My son is going to love the Grossology exhibit since lately he thinks bowel functions are down right hilarious!

  2. Looks like y’all had a good time! The Witte is always a favorite place of ours to visit, but we haven’t made it to see Grossology yet. Will definitely have to put it on our list!

  3. They have done a great job making the H-E-B Body Adventure work for a range of ages, from the giant puffy veggies for toddlers to climb on, to the “build a balanced meal” game that my son (age 7) loves to play.
