The New DoSeum: San Antonio’s Museum for Kids

Our family has been anticipating the new DoSeum for nearly 18 months! We attended the fun name-reveal ceremony back in January 2014 and the San Antonio Bloggers hard hat tour last August (you can spy our family in Inga’s post here). We’ve also watched the construction progress every time we drive up Broadway on our way to the San Antonio Botanical Garden. The girls have been counting down to the grand opening for what seems like forever!

DoSeum Entrance 2

Last night we were able to attend the Members-Only Grand Opening Preview, and I cannot wait to share the fun with all of you! (If you would like to become a member, I highly recommend you sign up by May 31st. Prices go up on June 1st.)

Here are a few of my favorite parts of the DoSeum:

Little Town

Visit Little Town at The DoSeum, San Antonio's Museum for Kids

Kate gives Winston a check-up at the vet clinic in Little Town. The exhibit includes several opportunities for imaginative play, including an airport, bank, grocery store, and more!

Imagine It

Read a book in the Imagine It area of The DoSeum, the San Antonio museum for kids.

The girls and I love the Imagine It area, with dress-up areas, a Reading Lab filled with great books, and more! This area has lots of areas for older children to try their hands at animation, storytelling, and computer work.

Big Outdoors

Try the big slide at The DoSeum, San Antonio's museum for kids!

All three of us climbed up to the top of the wooden play structure to try out the slide! I know my girls are going to have a great time exploring the Big Outdoors exhibit.

Cool off in the water play area at The DoSeum, San Antonio's museum for kids.

We were thrilled to cool off with water exploration! There were lots activities for children of all ages, including an area for bubble play.

Sensations Studio

Make a joyful noise at The DoSeum, San Antonio's museum for kids!

We loved exploring the Sensations Studio exhibit, trying out musical instruments, the light table, and more. This area is great for older children, too!

Be sure to try the musical staircase–it’s lots of fun for everyone! The exhibits upstairs, Innovation Station and Explore, are fantastic for elementary-age kiddos (and adults!). Innovation Station is all about tinkering, while Explore is all about geography.

Spy Academy (downstairs) also looks to be like a fun experience for children slightly older than mine! I’m looking forward to having something for Addie to grow into over the year.

We had a wonderful time at the preview–we were all especially impressed with the staff who not only made us feel really welcome, but also took the time to engage with our children in each of the exhibits. We’re looking forward to a fun summer at The DoSeum.

I’d love to hear your experiences with The DoSeum!

  1. That’s what I love about The DoSeum too: that it has so many different exhibits for different ages. I can see my kids (7 & 10) wanting to visit for several years at least!

I love your comments, and try to reply back here!
